Major Roles
Watch these, please.
Doctor Who
Karen Gillan played the fiery companion of the Eleventh Doctor, Amelia Pond. Amy Pond has quite a complicated story line that involves her child, Melody Pond, actually being River Song, the wife of the Doctor (who is subsequently older than her mother). Trust me, we could make an entire website trying to explain how that happened. Just watch it. Karen was a magnificent Amy Pond, and Steven Moffat, the executive producer, is quoted at saying, (about Karen's audition) "...when Karen came through the door, the game was up — she was funny, clever, gorgeous and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it. A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too."
This doesn't give away spoilers or anything, it just shows Karen doing what she's good at!
We'll Take Manhattan
Karen Gillan plays Jean Shrimpton in this drama about the (presently) unknown model, her affair with David Bailey, her photographer, the fights with their fashion editor, and the way that, without meaning to, they revolutionized the world of fashion. Jean Shrimpton is sent to New York for a Vogue photo shoot for a week and drama ensues.
Modelling Career
Before she was an actress, Karen Gillan was a model. She has said in interview that she does not miss modelling and that acting was always her final goal. On the Graham Norton Show, she said, on modelling, "There was a couple things I had to do, like put a bucket on my head in a casting so that was rather strange." (It was for a shoe commercial, so they didn't want any "distractions")
