Popularized Roles
Alex has been in more than these, but these are just the biggest ones.
ER
ER ran for fifteen seasons, and Alex Kingston was on for just over seven of those seasons. Her character, Elizabeth Corday, was a surgeon arriving from Britain.
Doctor Who
Does every British actor appear on this show? Alex Kingston plays River Song, born Melody Pond, the daughter of characters Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill). It's complicated. Russel T. Davies said of her character when she was first written in that she was "one of the most important characters in the narration" and that she was "vital" to the Doctor's life. Since she was conceived on the TARDIS, though she is human, she bears resemblance to the Doctor's species, the Time Lords. In season six, she marries the Doctor in the finale. Alex's character has the oft-used catchphrases "Hello, Sweetie" and "Spoilers!" Kingston once said in an interview that "I've always wanted to play... chick with weapon".
It's only a spoiler if you aren't to Season 4 yet.
